Company Garden Temple is a historic Hindu temple and botanical landmark located within the Company Garden (Saharanpur) complex on Mata Shakumbhari Devi Road in Nawabganj, Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Known locally as the Bageshwar Mahadev Temple, it blends spiritual devotion with the botanical heritage of one of India’s oldest gardens.
Historical and Cultural Significance
The surrounding garden, originally called Farahat-Bakhsh, dates back to before 1750 and was later developed under the British East India Company. It became a hub for early botanical research in northern India and contributed to the introduction of the tea plant from China, according to Joseph Dalton Hooker. The temple itself, dedicated to Lord Shiva, stands as a spiritual centerpiece within this lush heritage site.
